Dr. Michael Gervais: Rather Than Hacks You Want Wisdom

“The end game is to put yourself in the present moment in an ideal state.
“When I think about how I want to be more present, to be more me, and if I need a certain structure or routine to help me do that then that’s what it is.
“Structure or routine is priming—something that you do to be in the desired mental state, presence with an ideal mindset.
“A mindset is a word that captures the way that you lean into an environment.
“A mindset is your psychology.
“We can set our mind yet, first, we need to know what we set towards— a certain psychological state.
“What does it feel like when I am in that state?
“And so we make micro choices, micro adjustments that tune us in, snap us into a good vibe, a good tone.
“If it’s serious, you don’t want hacks.
“What you want is wisdom, what you want is insight, what you want is something durable, that is also nimble— that is the psychological framework we are talking about.
“That takes time.
“But the way to increase the sturdiness of it is time in the present moment.
“So we can talk about what are the practices to put you in the present moment more often; what are the practices to pull you out.
“It’s a fundamental commitment, it’s a fundamental orientation to design your life around— fill in the blank.
“And that thing—whatever your blank is—ought to be your purpose.“
