“When talking about self-talk, asking the core question, does this thought create space or not is an excellent way to frame it.
“The neuroscience underneath this are thoughts that quiet down the amygdala and lower cognitive load.
“Your relationship with yourself is met in a dialogue with yourself.
“You are either constricting or creating space;
based on the words we choose, the phraseology we have,
the tone of that phraseology, the intent and meaning around it—
it’s either creating space neurochemically, physiologically, psychologically, or it’s creating constriction.
“And I’m not saying that one is better than the other.
To have a sense of mastery is to know how to create space, how to create constriction, when to create space, when to be able to create constriction, and to be able to toggle up and down with some sort of volitional ability, where you sit in a driver’s seat of you.”
